Here at Chestnut Hill Senior Living we strive to make our Neighborhood a special place, not just for our residents, but for everyone who comes to visit and join in our daily festivities. We celebrate being good neighbors every day.
We call our Memory Care communities Neighborhoods to create a feeling of home and a special place of familiarity. People who live in a neighborhood know and care about each other. They often enjoy spending time and having meals together. We want our Memory Care communities to embody the true spirit of a neighborhood.
Our Memory Care Neighborhood is a special place for residents because it is where they can be themselves. Residents in our Memory Care Neighborhood aren’t judged, shamed, or misunderstood. It is the only place that beats to the sound of the residents’ tune. Our Memory Care is a special place for residents because visitors must join their sense of reality, never the other way around.
What sets our Neighborhood apart as a special and supportive place for families is that families can visit as often as they like. Families may join a program or event, share a meal, watch a movie, or spend a little quiet time in the resident’s apartment. Families are encouraged to share their values and traditions when visiting their loved ones.
September is also Alzheimer’s month. There are many ways to support people who are living with dementia. People can be a good neighbor and support individuals by volunteering their time to plan or participate in an event in a Memory Care Neighborhood. They can learn more about dementia and share their knowledge with others in various ways, such as hosting a public awareness campaign. People can donate funds to an organization that conducts research about dementia.
We encourage everyone to be a “good neighbor” and find ways to engage and make a difference in the lives of individuals living with dementia. You don’t need to have a special talent, just a heart for others around you. If you would like more information about volunteering in a Memory Care Neighborhood near you or if you are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia, we would love to help!
