Established by the National Center for Assisted Living (NCAL) in 1995, National Assisted Living Week® recognizes the role of assisted living in America while providing a unique opportunity for residents, their loved ones, staff, volunteers, and the surrounding communities to recognize the role of assisted living in caring for America’s seniors and individuals with disabilities. The annual observance encourages assisted living communities around the country to celebrate the individuals they serve while simultaneously educating members of the public about what assisted living truly looks like.
This year, Chestnut Hill Senior Living is celebrating the 2022 theme of “joyful moments” from September 11th to September 17th by recognizing how each department plays a role in creating joy for our residents and staff members.
Being a leader of a senior living community makes me proud to be in a position where I can make a difference in residents’ and employees’ lives. I see myself in a lot of our younger employees, remembering what I needed to succeed and those around me that truly helped me to do so. I try to be that person now and hopefully I am succeeding.
Our team creates joyful moments on a regular basis in our community. We sing Happy Birthday to our residents in the dining room. Birthdays are the best with this population. LaRon, our Culinary Director, makes food from their childhood or their favorite meals. We like to have fun and include our residents in everything we do. I often hear how much residents and families love our community.
One of the residents commented on what brings him the most joy living at Chestnut Hill Senior Living: “Everyone is so nice here and the managers do a good job taking care of us. I have met many new friends here. When my wife died, I didn’t know if I would ever enjoy life again, but I am thankful to everyone here.”
We plan to make National Assisted Living Week special in our community. Starting off the celebration on Grandparents Day, we will pay tribute to all our grandparents. The entire week will honor “Old Hollywood” style! There will be Oscar presentations and festivities, mismatch day, PJs and relaxation day, wear your most fabulous hat day, with the finale to include a talent show.
Follow us on Facebook to witness all our joyful moments, but especially from September 11th to September 17th as each department celebrates National Assisted Living Week and the many ways each team brings joy to our community staff and residents!
